Employment & Training

MPC employs approximately 170 people during the processing season which typically commences late March and ends early November. The season may continue for longer depending on the size of the crop to be processed.

The factory operates all year round with kernel reprocessing, warehousing, mainteance and upgrades being some of the tasks performed. Therefore a limited number of employment opportunities are available for year round employment on a casual basis.

In February each year MPC seeks applicants to fill the vacant Factory Worker positions that are needed for the processing season.

While all vacancies are for Factory Workers, employees may be allocated any of the positions listed below (training is provided for all positions):

  • Sorters
  • Packers
  • Laboratory Assistants
  • Forklift Operators (if qualified)
  • Reprocessing Workers
  • Machine Operators
  • Cleaners (night shift)
  • Warehouse Workers
  • Receivals Assistants

MPC operates 3 Shifts over 24 hours per day, 5 days per week (Mon to Fri) during the processing season and as required in the off season.

Shifts are:

  • Morning – 6am to 2pm
  • Afternoon – 2pm to 10pm
  • Night – 10pm to 6am

Some positions are required to work 7.30am to 3.30pm

Reasonable overtime (when available) is expected to be worked and transferring to a different shift may be required after consultation with individual employees.

MPC places high importance on worker and product safety and expects employees to participate in training, commencing with pre-employment induction training and continuing throughout their employment. Reliability, honesty and an ability to work as part of a team are essential requirements.
